The Great Salt Lake is the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere. Its high salinity supports unique ecosystems and serves as a vital habitat for millions of migratory birds. The lake contributes to local industries, moderates the climate, and plays a key role in the region's water cycle. Rich in cultural and historical significance, the Great Salt Lake has shaped local communities for centuries. However, it now faces challenges from shrinking water levels, drought, environmental change, and urban encroachment.

The tour includes the Eccles Wildlife Education Center, where you'll learn more about the lake’s diverse ecosystems and the migratory birds that depend on them, and Antelope Island State Park, home to free-ranging bison, pronghorn, and stunning panoramic views of the lake. These stops offer a perfect blend of education and natural beauty, giving you a deeper understanding of The Great Salt Lake's importance.

The tour will include moderate walking over paved and unpaved surfaces. February weather in Utah is unpredictable. While most of the tour will be on the bus, there are outdoor stops. Bring a coat and consider wearing waterproof shoes to stay comfortable. Drive times may be longer in inclement weather.
